Granada, Spain

Road Trip (part II)

Granada… Home to the Alhambra, the most visited tourist attraction in the country

Granada is a special place for many people we know, often saying it’s their favorite place in Spain. And for good reason. Granada is home to the Alhambra, the most visited tourist attraction in the country. Overall,  we also loved many parts of the city but found it a little different traveling with a big dog because the city really seemed to lack green space. Founded in 1524, you can imagine the narrow alleyways, hilly cobblestone streets, and beautiful Islamic architecture.

The Alhambra was stunning and had a majestic 365-degree view! Unfortunately, I had a ticket purchase fail and we paid about 3x the amount to visit but it ended up being worth it. Just a note, buy your tickets from the Alhambra website. If we stayed longer I would have also gone back for the Nasrid Palace night visit.

For those that know me, you I’m a tea gal not a coffee drinker, and just around the corner from our great place (which had a huge terrace for Winnie!) was Calle Calderería Nueva which translates to “the street of the tea shops!” It smelled of fresh spices and Arabic sweet treats. Like tea, I am also a fan of botanic gardens and there is one you can visit for free in the middle of the city that backs right up to Humo El Origen, a cute restaurant with fresh bites and craft cocktails. The scallops were a must!

For more of a local atmosphere we headed over to the Jewish Quarter. Stopping at Queseria Rossini and sampling so many cheeses, pates, fresh salmon and bruschetta that we couldn’t even eat it all! And it only cost €14… a charcuterie board back home with half the amount of food would cost at least double. For some quick energy there are plenty of coffee shops around too, our favorite was Minuit Pan & Cafe where we had a little caffeine before heading to Lemon Rock for a punk concert. Yes, I went to a punk concert. This show was definitely chosen by Trent but visiting the multi-level venue pushed me out of my comfort zone in all the best ways. It had leopard print couches and your cocktail came with a side sampling of gummy candies so that was enough to make my night right there! I’d recommend Lemon Rock be on anyone’s list because each floor has something different to offer.
